I didn’t say the AK would malfunction because of the grip.
The M16/M4 System will (Mostly double feeds and stovepiping)
It’s just general practice that you don’t use the magazine as a foregrip. There are many reasons for this.
The first (and biggest reason) is just general technique. Sure, it may be acceptable in some cases to use the mag as a grip on a specific AK variant, but what is “fine” or acceptable with one rifle, might not be with another.
Say I have to instruct Soldier A on the AK, M4 and say an FNFAL. Behind soldier A, is soldier B through Z.
I am not going to teach three firing techniques to all those soldiers separately for each rifle. I am going to teach one, standard firing technique that covers the spread. Teaching that it may be “fine” to use the magazine as a grip on the AK may lead to the thought that “hey, i can use the mag as a grip with everything.”
Also, using the magazine as a foregrip adds unnecessary stress and strain on areas that weren’t engineered for it, and even if they were engineered for it, it’s ill advised to do so, as it wears out the weapon faster than normal.
Under no circumstances to I think it’s fine or acceptable to use the magazine as a grip. You can shoot just as accurate, just as fast and be just as effective with standard technique without the worry or unnecessary wear and tear. And this includes the AK.
