picture was taken off the coast of Vietnam on the USS Midway.
> One day a plane captain rescued a damaged toilet that was about to be tossed overboard. The ordnance crew made a frame for it so it could be attached to a bomb rack. As it was mounted a group of ordnance checkers shielded this weapon so the air boss and the bridge could not see what it was as it was moved onto the catapult. Just as the plane was being shot off, the bridge asked on the loudspeaker, “What the h___ was that on the wing of 572?”
> When the plane reported to the airborne forward air controller over Viet Nam he stated that he carried an experimental weapon code named SANI-FLUSH.
> This was a one toilet exercise as the supply was extremely limited.
While this experiment can be thought of as some sort of military humor others might attribute the episode to boredom and a fertile imagination..
> THE PILOT (COMMANDER C. W. ”BILL” STODDARD) AND PLANE #572 WERE LOST OVER VIET NAM A FEW MONTHS LATER WHEN HIT BY A SURFACE TO AIR MISSLE..
