I’m not defending him at all, just saying he was a member of 21 SAS and not attached as a “cook reservist”. Also if you read this thread you will see that Ryan (and McNabb) is not particularly well liked either. The article you site was put out to promote Ryan’s tv show as well.
It only calls into question if he broke his back in an operation with the SAS. Ultimately who cares if he broke it on a training mission(more likely given the quick medevac he must of got) or an operation to save a bunch of nuns from a warlord, he still broke his back on a failed paradrop as a member of the 21 SAS.
Ryan accusing someone else of playing there part up is like Mike Tyson calling someone viscious. All three of them have done it, Ryan and McNabb’s accounts of there time has been questioned a lot with others in the thread pointing out where and how.
Personally I can’t stand Bear Grylls. I think he is a pompous etonian douchebag and is overbearingness on religion although his personal choice does not square with me especially as he voluntarily signed up to kill people and then joined the SAS who are specifically trained to kill people in more efficient and imaginative ways(you can be in the Army and be a REMF but even that is shaky ground religion wise IMO).
I don’t particularly like McNabb’s politics or the fact he uses the picture of himself from 20 years ago when now he is built more closer to the Michelin man.
Regardless he was in 21 SAS, McNabb and Ryan 22 SAS and beyond that is a lot of murky details and contradictions.
