>I’m sorry, but range isn’t the determining factor of what is and isn’t a cruise missile – propulsion system is.
Excuse me. I should have said long or medium range cruise missiles. 150-200km is a comparably very short range. Even the V-1 had a longer range.
>IT’s the longest range gun the USN uses. You were the one who said they don’t have ‘long range guns’ – if you can name a longer range gun in service in the USN do so. You really are upset you’re getting proven wrong huh?
I never said they “didn’t have long-range guns.” Maybe you should glance at the username you are replying to. I even named the guy. Nobody has long range ship-mounted guns anymore.
If you did serve in the Navy you should know about the controversy surrounding retiring the Iowa class and leaving inadequate gunfire support for the USMC.
The 5″ gun doesn’t cut it for that role. I haven’t been proven wrong, unless you somehow think you know more than the USMC.
>You claimed they don’t have cruise missiles, which i’ve proven that they do. Don’t move the goal posts.
Technically I guess you are right, anti-ship missiles can be considered short ranged cruise missiles. The same way a Cessna and a B-52 are both “airplanes”. But they wouldn’t fall under anyone’s definition of a strategically offensive weapon. Which was the whole point OP was trying to make. Saying “Japan has cruise missiles” implies that they are in the same league as one that is supersonic or one with a 1000+km range. That is horribly disingenuous. Japan doesn’t have *comparable* cruise missiles.
While you are correct in your one cherry picked example, you overlook all the rest of his points by telling him to “do some research.” I guess being technically right on this one aspect must be really important to you.
>Stop pretending you know what you’re talking about if you’ve never even served in the military. Come on dude, anyone with a modicum of knowledge would know you’re full of shit.
Take it easy Admiral. Educated people can learn and know things without having served, which by the way you have no idea whether I have or have not. “RET.?” So you served out your twenty? Because you sound like a butt hurt, one-enlistment E-3 that washed out of SWCC training and got stuck doing the laundry. I would hope that someone that spent over two decades in the Navy would be able to grasp the difference between a BGM-109 that can be quipped with nuclear warheads and a short range anti-ship missile.
