Yeah, that’s what I mean. That is the only downside I know about: that diesel engines weren’t so powerful 20 years ago. But now that’s no problem anymore, so only advantages remain. Leopard 2 runs on *half* the fuel an M1 needs with *equal* performance, *easier* maintance and *better* heat signature.
These are advantages that count both in peace and war time. Supply, maintance and detectability are crucial in a war, and during peace time it makes the M1 more expensive to maintain. This sounds “inferior per se” and makes gas turbines basically an obsolete technology for this class of MBTs.
