Maybe you think you know China well, but throughout the comment, the only thing I saw was subjectivity. I’m speaking in position of(not on behalf) a Chinese. You tend to neglect the current gen of ground vehicles like tank, navy’s vessels like destroyers and most 3rd-gen jet fighters servicing in China’s air force. Almost all of them are originally designed and produced by China. For instance, J-10, JH-7 fighters, series of 051/052 navy destroyers, all of the submarines in duty, Type-99 MBTs and Type-88 LAVs. If you mentioned turbofan engines, yes, they definitely are weakness of China’s war industry. However, you can’t just say none. WS10A(Chinese made jet engine, capability is close to F110) are now equipped on J-11BS, and will be installed on next batch of J-10 fighters. WS15 engine for next-gen fighters is officially confirmed that its mass production will start by the end of 2020.(Unlike Indians, we rarely eat up our words.) J-20, the fifth gen, by this stage, I can’t say how would it be if comparing to F-22 and T-50. But please allow me to point out something. Did we spend a TON of money on development of J-20? Please refer to the military expenditure of China during past years, less than one sixth of USAs’. If you compare it to the period that America was developing F22(Gulf War was about end), it’s pretty much NOTHING. Also as soon as you see the canards, you should realize that J-20 is a completely different jet. It makes aerodynamic whole lots of differences. If you are trying to find out their similarity in appearance, that might be only double vertical tails. J-20 is currently doing intense test flights. New photos of J-20’s flight got revealed every month since 2011. If you are talking about the second 5th gen fighter, please refer to J-31, another next-gen fighter revealed in 2012.(it’s not a plan, please watch last year’s air show.) Finally, I hope you understand that by the time western world had finished first industrial revolution, China wasn’t end with feudalism. After years of invasion and civil war, China missed the second time. When the young republic firstly established, there was no resource, no knowledge. Started from nothing, China went all way through in this 60 years, same to time the western experienced for two centuries. I’m not justifying the copying done by China, but no one shall deny our willing to innovate to create.
