>nations wouldn’t be creating plans for HUD devices if they didn’t work.
Note that I never said that it wouldn’t work, just that it would be left behind at base. While I couldn’t find the exact terminal lance comic I was looking for to exemplify this, [this one](http://terminallance.com/2010/06/18/terminal-lance-44-smear-the-gear-queer/) does a good job of showing my point. When you’re spending all day either standing around or going on patrol, you’re going to take as little weight as possible.
The comic I was looking for **([this one](http://terminallance.com/2012/08/24/terminal-lance-220-issued/))** had the creator’s write-up talking about some of the seemingly useful gear that they had that was always left behind, one of which was *earbuds* for the radio, as they could get in the way. A bunch of tech and the wires going along with it would never last past a few trips outside the wire.
Even considering lighter gear causing the weight to be the same, as you mentioned a few posts up, they’re likely to simply carry the same gear and be happy it’s lighter, rather than take extra gear that’s useful for the 5% of the job that the media focuses on.
