IIRC B-52’s are kept as strategic nuke option. The B2’s are super expensive so the B1b’s get used a lot when they do things like long range bombing missions into iraq\afghanistan because they are newer then the 52’s (less airframe hours etc)
EDIT: B2’s are exceedingly expensive to operate and there is only 40 or 50 of them worldwide. B-52’s are controlled under arms control treaties which is why a load in AMARC had there wings sliced off and left like that so satellites can see.
The B1-B (whilst also expensive but nowhere near B2 levels) also has the ability to go supersonic and IIRC has terrain following RADAR etc. A bit like a big F111, they can go in low and fast. The B1-A was supposed to fill the role of the B2 but the MiG-31 meant anything flying low would be just as likely to survive as a B-52 which was much cheaper and got the initial program cancelled.
