I’m actually not sure..I think Calvados is a kind of Apple brandy and know it’s named after that specific region in Normandy. Lot’s of fighting in that region between the British, Canadians, and the Wehrmacht 21st panzer division and 12th SS Panzer Division ‘Hitlerjugend’ (Hitler Youth) Anyways, that’s what I was researching and why I was in Caen and Ouistreham. I decided to celebrate the ability to buy liqour at age 20! I had no idea what to get but insisted I wanted something local. The shop owner handed me a bottle of Calvados, a wedge of cheese, and 3 really nice little cigars. All 3 were consumed within 3 hours after dinner and before bed and It was glorious. Calvados is not weak but in no way does it have that awful burn and punch of lesser qaulity liqours.
